Artist Statement
“My work is representational with elements of abstraction. I love altering the colour, shapes, and features of natural forms to create bold, bright and stylized landscapes. I also love painting flowers, capturing the personality of a bloom through subtle blending and attention to the play between light and shadows.”
Artist Bio
After retiring from a 30-year career in education, Debbie moved back to Nova Scotia where she discovered a new passion - painting. Her realistic paintings are influenced by her love of the outdoors and gardening. Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe and Ted Harrison, Debbie’s recent work is focused on the drama and energy of natural forms.
Now a full-time artist working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Debbie’s work has lots of bold colour, drama, and energy. The results are dynamic and captivating.
As Chair of the Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts, and member of the Crossroad Artists, Lunenburg Art Gallery Society, and the Aspotogan Arts & Crafts, Debbie is a well-known artist in the St. Margaret’s Bay area. Her studio is open to visitors year-round. Commissions are welcome.
